about

About the Tampere EPs:
I've been living in Tampere for 10+ years. I'm fascinated by maps and how they relate to local history. In this series of EPs I draw inspiration from my immediate surroundings, the city and its districts.

Also, using city districts gives me lots of cool names since naming tracks is often the hardest part :).

VI: Kaakinmaa
Kaakinmaa is named after a pillory that was used in this district to punish evildoers. Imagine being bound there after a whipping, maybe in the scorching summer sun. This is what it might sound like :).

VII: Pyynikinrinne
Pyynikinrinne is one of the wealthier ones as a residential district. It's posh and refined, with houses most of us wouldn't mind living in. You'll also find the 138-meter-long Kilometritalo (Kilometer house) in Pyynikinrinne. Chill out with this loungy deep house piece.

VIII: Särkänniemi
Särkänniemi is all about fun and games. The district's main attraction is the Särkänniemi amusement park, with the 168-meter-tall Näsinneula (pictured on the EP cover). You'll find lots of things going up and down in this track.

IX: Tampella
Tampella used to be a big industrial complex, nowadays converted into residential area. Here's also the museum centre Vapriikki on the banks of Tammerkoski. This garage style track has some old and new in it, much like the Tampella district.

Interlude: Armonkallio
The railroad track separates Armonkallio from Tampella. While officially part of district IX, it deserves its own piece. At the end of 19th century residents of Kyttälä were forced to move in this rocky hill and given five rent-free years. Thus the name Armonkallio, "rock of mercy".
